Germany's best screenplay award bestowed on Behrouz Karamizadeh

Iranian artist Behrouz Karamizadeh, the writer of 'Empty Fishing Nets' screenplay, has become the best screenwriter in Germany in 2021.

Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters, awarded the Best German Screenplay Award in 2021 to Iranian screenwriter Karamizadeh.

The screenplay, called 'Empty Fishing Nets', narrates the story of Amir, a young Iranian who fishes in the Caspian Sea and tries to pay for his marriage.

A statement from the jury said, “'Empty Fishing Nets' deals with the fate of Amir and looks at the effects of global problems and political tensions. A social and brilliant story with a coherent and artistic atmosphere.”
